Yeah, I think that poor geek is just like me - It's just I check Cybernations or Livejournal or whatever instead of my email. No one emails me much anymore, they seldom have reason to.

Yes. Notice that he was simply being consumed by the monitor. This means it need not be restricted to 'e-mail'. For all we know, it could have started out with 'e-mail', then gone to 'the web', then 'blogging', etc.

Note that the older generations seem to have an easier time 'checking e-mail' and basically leaving it at that. The Internet is our generation's 'TV' and earlier generation's 'radio'. There are references like this to both those mediums.
